Sarah’s Key: A Harrowing, Hypnotic Experience

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Director Gilles Paquet-Brenner takes Tatiana De Rosnay’s novel and brings onscreen a harrowing and hypnotic experience that begins in Paris, 1942, and then melds into 2010. What starts as a regular shifting into an apartment in the current times opens the closet for a horror in the past that continues to haunt the conscience of humanity till date. While Kristin Scott Thomas shines in the second of her trilogy of her World War II movies, it is young actor Mélusine Mayance who, with her haunted eyes and expressions that cut right into your soul, breaks your heart again and again. “Sarah’s Key” also throws light on, whatever the circumstances might have been, the deadly effects of complicity.
